To say Tony has tonight’s sell-out crowd in the palm of his hand from the moment he steps into the spotlight to join his backing quartet would be a huge understatement. It’s impossible not to be bowled over by his bighearted performance. But don’t let his easy-going style distract from the amount of energy and control he puts into each song. In an evening of glittering superlatives, the masterly For Once In My Life, The Shadow Of Your Smile, The Good Life, If I Ruled The World and, of course, I Left My Heart In San Francisco existed on an even higher plane than the rest. As did a breathtaking closing solo rendition of Fly Me To The Moon, where Tony surpassed himself by singing without a microphone to a spellbound audience. With an amazing 50+ year career and still at the peak of his powers, timeless Tony is in a class of his own.
