A madman rolling on the floor, electrocuted by clattering spoons, feathers ejaculating from a robot and an audience doing the ‘Head Ballet’, highlights of a wonderfully manic Bonzo Bonanza. Roger Spear, Rodney Slater, Sam Spoons and Vernon Dudley Bohay Nowell, plus guest Legs Larry Smith, ran through Jollity Farm, Hunting Tigers and My Pink Half Of The Drainpipe. The comedy veterans reprised their clever, witty and silly songs, including new ones like Rodney’s Old Geezer Rock. But it wasn’t all smoke, honking sax and squawking parrots. There was a musical saw, trouser press and Theremin leg, and Sam and Roger did their ventriloquism act, while Legs Larry swanned on for Look At Me I’m Wonderful. With Andy Roberts providing the world’s worst guitar solo on Canyons Of Your Mind, our cup overflowed.
