Bobby Goldsboro - The Very Best Of Bobby Goldsboro

Hits aplenty, but where are the rarities?

Goldsboro knew his target market and his vocal range well, and straddled the line between good pop and easy listening by remaining acceptable to both audiences. His huge hits, Honey and Summer (The First Time), are both included on this budget issue. There are also covers of Everybody’s Talkin’, Your Song, I Can See Clearly Now, Proud Mary and Ruby Tuesday, that amount to some handy ear candy.

The compilers have missed a trick by not including some of Goldsboro’s very collectable United Artists material from 1966-67. There are songs from before and after this period, so we should assume that sought-after items such as It’s Too Late and other strong singles would also have been available. What is here is good, especially the evocative Summer (The First Time) and a strong version of I Can’t Stop Loving You, that will please the easy listening fans. What we need now is another collection of his beat-driven dancers from the same period. EMI please take note.
