Tom Snyder - The Tomorrow Show: Tom Snyder’s Electric Kool-Aid Talk Show

The Dead rock as primetime chat turns to acid…

The Tomorrow Show: Tom Snyder’s Electric Kool-Aid Talk Show

This Tomorrow Show psychedelic special, compiled from four talk shows originally broadcast 1979- 81, is perhaps chiefly of interest to devotees of The Grateful Dead. That said, it does a fine patchwork job of mopping up all the key talking heads. Merry Prankster Ken Kesey runs happily over the dawn of the Dead and drug era with Jerry Garcia, likening the US government’s interest in exploring the potential of LSD to the space shuttle (“It was just the passage back from Jupiter that was the problem”); Tim ‘Turn On, Tune In’ Leary enjoys a rare TV appearance as a ‘stand-up philosopher’ debating with G Gordon Liddy (“The last time I saw Liddy he busted into my bedroom with 24 State troopers”); and Tom Wolfe is as entertaining as ever in his two interviews, if more interested in talking about neckties, nightclubs and frequent flying in 1980 than 1966.

The Dead go unplugged to trip out four tracks from their live Reckoning LP, really hitting the groove by Deep Elem Blues and a terrific Cassidy.
