Headlining the Cherry Red 30th Anniversary Party, a re-formed Monochrome Set followed stints from Attila The Stockbroker and ex-Carter USM’s Jim Bob. Punkier and more aggressive than on record, The Monochrome Set are a showstopping event. Getting people to dance at an industry do is like trying to catch a whale with a fishing rod, but they managed it. Frontman Bid was tipsily entertaining, while Lester Square’s guitar was as precise as needle-point. Moreover, performing after only two rehearsals, they conspired to offer one of the gigs of the year. Shame they’ve no plans to reunite properly as they’d burn the stage. Maybe in another 30 years!
