The Long Blondes

View: front, left of centre

An utterly thrilling pop band capable of blowing you away with power as well as subtlety, The Long Blondes are fronted by the striking looks and husky tones of vocalist Kate Jackson, who, whether she’s growling over the feedback squeal of Lust In The Movies or wildly dancing to the Blondie-esque Weekend Without Makeup is the focus of attention. But there’s a lot more to the band, from the rumbling, sinister A Knife For The Girls, to the caustic romp that is Giddy Stratospheres. Drummer Screech Louder deserves praise for a relentless thud, giving backbone throughout. By the time that the scattergun thrash of Separated By Motorways concludes matters, it’s clear that The Long Blondes place as much importance on cerebral matters as raw, visceral indie-pop.
