The SECC can swallow up bands, its cavernous interior often creating a soulless feel. In a way, though, it’s a perfect venue for The Killers – a chance to test their credentials as stadium-rockers, especially with the harder edge to their recent work. Everything’s in place, from the intricate stage set-up to the lengthy video that precedes their arrival. However, when they do appear, everything feels quite flat. Despite dancefloor fillers Bones and Somebody Told Me, they seem oddly mechanical – too polished and slick. Luckily, things turn around with Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine, which creeps in menacingly, while the booming Meatloaf-lite pomp-rock of This River Is Wild becomes a stirring triumph. Then classic hit Mr Brightside and the arms-aloft anthem of All These Things That I’ve Done flatten the crowd with their sheer power. Despite a sluggish beginning, The Killers conquered.
