The Kaleidoscope British Television Music & Variety Guide II
by Pete Seaton with Richard Down

Top Of The Pops catalogued

We at RC are happy to admit that we’re obsessives. But boy, we’ve got nothing on the guys at Kaleidoscope, who for many years have specialised in archiving classic TV shows. Their latest mighty tome (480 A4 pages) lists every single episode of Top Of The Pops – not just the artists and songs but also presenters, production team, members of Legs & Co, the lot. For every show! No pictures, no narrative, just the lists. You will either regard this as an act of stupendous pointlessness, or you will devour it line by line.

Modestly (if slightly confusingly) sub-titled Top Pop: 1964-2006, it is a monument to Kaleidoscope’s founding genius, the late Richard Down, whose life’s work (along with documenting Dr Who and many other shows) this was.
