The Guillemots

Through all the idiosyncratic arrangements and beautifully messy, big orchestratic sounds, there is something loveable and charming about Fyfe Dangerfield and The Guillemots. With their lushly romantic and strange-but-beautiful sound, The Guillemots have drawn audiences into comfortably surreal worlds of fantasy and illusion; haunting landscapes in If The World Ends, and then to the sunny daffodils and tulip lands of Made Up Love Song #43.

Effortlessly, putting this here and that there as it came, they filled the Manchester Academy with a wonderfully creative set full of bittersweet melodies, overblown sentiments and chaotic nursery rhymes. Through The Window Pane was delivered with a warm, wacky confidence, while Annie, Let’s Not Wait underlined the irresistible charisma and unpredictability that has seen The Guillemots nominated for Best Live Act at this year’s Brits, as well as for Album Of The Year at last year’s Mercury Prize. In rolling out tracks from albums past and forthcoming, it’s clear to see that there’s a genuine enjoyment and passion for the music they make.

A fantastic experience that kept you on your toes, justifying all the hype, nominations, spilt beer and M6…
