A line-up of James Brown and Parliament/Funkadelic alumni includes Fred Wesley, Bernie Worrell and the twin powerhouses of indestructible grooves, John ‘Jabo’ Starks and Clyde ‘The Funky Drummer’ Stubblefield. They get the show rolling before the rest of the seven-piece make their entrance, but it’s the wild-eyed Worrell who runs things from behind his keyboards. The show feels like a Brown tribute with Pass The Peas, Cold Sweat, Sex Machine, Red Hot Mamma and Funky Good Time, but Stubblefield also stepped out from behind his kit to sing a boisterous Let’s Stick Together. Colossal.
