Elton John - The Covers Record

Before the tantrums and tiaras

Before catapulting into mega-stardom, Elton John paid the bills by appearing on cheap, budget label compilations that you could pick up in department stores in the late 60s. The Covers Record collects 20 cuts from those bygone days, including a version of the evergreen Cotton Fields (effectively handled, with impressive harmonies redolent of The Beach Boys’ take) and a delicate, heartfelt trio of Nick Drake numbers, Day Is Done, Way To Blue and Time Has Told Me.
