The Collage were a mostly studio-based four-piece who followed in the wake of The Mamas & Papas and Free Design with a 1968 album and a handful of singles. The band also provided their own contributions, alongside material from sunshine pop penmen such as Curt Boettcher, Roger Nichols and Paul Williams.
The resultant 20 tracks, recorded with members of the famed Wrecking Crew, are well crafted but not particularly aimed at the pop market. Both the gentle, contemplative Driftin’ and Rainy Blue Memory Day are strong examples of contemporary West Coast harmony pop, while Would You Like To Go is a very decent cover of the Ballroom original. The bonus tracks here boast various singles and unreleased tracks, including Harry Nilsson’s Story of Rock And Roll.
