1973’s nine-song That’s What I’m Here For features some classy blues work, such as on the catchy title track and Voices, but the tone diversifies with the funky piano of My Baby Says She’s Gonna Leave Me and Southern rock of Home Is Where I Lost Her. Rattling piano comes to the fore on Roy’s Bluz, and organ shapes Please Don’t Turn Me Away.
The follow-up eight-track set from 1974, Rescue Me, meanders through funk-glam on the title track, to Dixie brass on I’m A Ram, and slow blues on She Can’t Say No. In The Beginning and Country Preacher are decent instrumentals, but the blues takes a back seat for much of the set.
