Peter Green - Supernatural

Two distinct and contrasting Peter Green eras

It’s hard to work out just who exactly this is aimed at, as serious aficionados of the star-crossed guitarist will already have the relevant Green albums. Likewise, if someone were looking for an intro to his back catalogue, it’s odds on they’d start elsewhere. With one disc exclusively devoted to live material and its companion to studio recordings, rather than fully document Green’s career from his earliest days with The Bluesbreakers onwards, Supernatural focuses on the leader of the original Fleetwood Mac in a live performance context, and the leader of The Splinter Group, both live and in the studio.

Most of Disc One, including great versions of The Green Manalishi, Black Magic Woman, Oh Well! and a monumental 24- minute Rattlesnake Shake, are taken from Fleetwood Mac’s three-night residency at the Boston Tea Party in February 1970, previously released as two volumes of Live In Boston. Three tracks come from Splinter Group’s Soho Live album of 1998. Disc Two, on the other hand, is essentially the best of The Splinter Group, mixing tracks from all their releases to date, including guest appearances from Otis Rush (I’m A Steady Rollin’ Man ), Dr John (From Four Until Late) and Paul Rogers (Sweet Home Chicago).
