Wizz often plays other people’s songs, but he makes them his own, as he showed with his version of Jesse Winchester’s Black Dog. He’s no mean songsmith either, and his guitar-playing is unique. Steve played old favourites like Jacaranda and Rocky Road, and showed he hasn’t been resting on his laurels, with a great new number, Oil And Water. After a solo set each, they finished the night in style together. Listening to them play Weeping Willow Blues, with the post-sunset beach still aglow, it doesn’t get much better. As someone in the audience remarked, if the England team played with as much enthusiasm we’d have had the World Cup in the bag.
