Marillion’s ‘new’ (albeit of 21 years) singer was armed with a laptop, guide set-list, diary extracts and grand piano for this show in a nave, proceedings loose with requests and stories for a couple of hours. With Christmas decorations and snow outside, the festive atmosphere was perfect, especially as Hogarth had been busy practicing his solo piano version of Marillion’s Season’s End. Being Liverpool, the performance featured nods to The Beatles, as well as Kate Bush and Abba. Bookending the show with a couple of traditional Christmas songs, it was a fine way to start the festive season.
