Skid Row - Skid

Umpteenth reissue of Gary Moore debut

This digipak set from 1970 saw the Brush Shields-led power-trio showcase the guitar and vocal talents of the teen Gary Moore. Moore pointedly surfaces on opener Mad Dog Woman, one of the bluesier of the nine numbers here, albeit hijacked by some bongo madness at the end. The same goes for the meandering psych-tinged Virgo’s Daughter, with its Amerindian chanting and drums, but much of the remainder is a mix of jazz fusion with scatting and worse. The guitar work is frenzied in places and the percussion syncopated, but it’s all pretty dated, and the weird 11-minute closer of Felicity is a misnomer!
