Unflinching portrait of punk’s star-crossed lovers

After the praise lavished on his cult debut Repo Man, Alex Cox was seen as the ideal director to deliver a movie dripping with punk attitude. The finished product, however, was more old-fashioned love story than searing account of musical and cultural revolution. Ignore the cartoon portrayals of Rotten or McLaren, because at the heart of this 1986 film are stunning turns by Gary Oldman and Chloe Webb.
