Various Artists - Roots & Rumours: The Roots Of Elvis Presley Vol 2

Early Elvis material… possibly

This interesting collection covers material that may have been recorded/sung in concerts/heard by Presley… or, possibly not, in some cases. The history of his early set lists, radio shows and sundry radio station recordings is subject to speculation, but certainly a good percentage of these songs would have figured in the King’s repertoire.

The 28-track collection draws from country, rockabilly, R&B and bluegrass – all very much the radio material that Presley would have heard as he swung through the South on his early tours. With The Delmore Brothers, Hank Snow and Lefty Frizzell standing alongside Wynonie Harris, Ivory Joe Hunter and even Rufus Thomas, this is an attractive mixed platter for Presleyites to ponder, or for more general listeners to take as a snapshot of the times. No one should miss the tougher tracks near the end, with Buddy & Bob’s Down The Line and Eddie Riff’s Ain’t That Lovin’ You Baby standing out. Detailed notes help explain the Elvis links, and complete a good package.
