Recorded in Nashville and running to 157 minutes, this 5.1 set sees the venerable Mick Jones (looking more like Rudi Schenker every day), singer Kelly Hansen and the chaps revisit the band’s 70s and 80s classics, with a few nods to their latest, Can’t Slow Down.
The performance is as professional and polished as a new Bentley, but it’s only on an additional four-song PBS TV Soundstage set that the band shift into top gear, aided by an impressive lighting rig and Jason Bonham on drum duties.
Still, you can’t argue with the likes of the rattling opener, Double Vision, with Hansen in shades and spray-on strides (must be a rock star), the catchy piano-led Cold As Ice (with blue tint lens effect) and pomp-rock of Blue Morning Blue Days. Head Games is initially rather pedestrian, but Waiting For A Girl Like You shines, and latter-day material such as When It Comes To Love slips seamlessly in.
An acoustic-led Starrider, singalong Feels Like The First Time and strident Long Long Way From Home make up for an overly extended Juke Box Hero, while the ladies lead on I Want To Know What Love Is and Hot Blooded brings down the curtain. Three promo clips and a Q&A with the main men add to the lustre.
