“A background to the music contained herein: Rick Hayward’s musical career has been one both of frustration and disappointment…”
So much for the hard sell in the original sleevenotes to this 1971 release from longtime Blue Horizon session man Hayward, best known for once playing in the Christine Perfect (aka McVie) Band. The modest Yorkshireman was clearly happiest contributing his gentle and intricate folkie-blues guitar somewhere down a cast list that included the likes of Clapton, Kossoff, Gallagher, Bruce, Mitchell and Ackermann. As hugely likeable as both Hayward and his mainly instrumental collection of songs are, the vocals and tunes do lack a certain thrust. As, of course, do their gentle Buddhist sentiments.
