The band, touring their current Accelerate, made sure an exhilarating performance matched the seafront venue. Built like an amphitheatre with super sound, REM appeared on the rather small stage at 9:45 and offered eight different songs from the previous night in Lyon. Their 26-song set saw newer material fit in snugly, such as Ignoreland, along with staples from the likes of Reckoning, which kept the crowd happy. The band, who’d never performed in front of such a monument before, left two hours later leaving one and all truly satisfied.
