Right from when the first promo CDrs started filtering out in early 2006, Matt “Radio Slave” Edwards’ Rekids label has caused regular dancefloor storms with a steady stream of singles, then albums, charting new stratas in hallucinogenic manipulation of the original house blueprint, initially by slowing the beat right down then sprinkling with all manner of dubbed-out trickery. This reckless embrace of mind-blowing sonic mischief drew like-minded alchemists to the label, such as Kenny Hawkes & David Parr, Mr G, Toby Tobias and Spencer Parker and Luke Solomon, whose Classics label, run with Chicago legend Derrick Carter, could be some kind of attitude blueprint.
Disc One presents nine originals taken from the aforementioned, while Disc Two sees heavy-hitters such as Slam, Andomat 3000, Cristian Vogel, Prins Thomas, Dubfire, Josh Wink and I:Cube steaming in with a bevy of startling remixes. On the third disc Spencer Parker mixes highlights into a mesmerising outing suitably dominated by Radio Slave killers such as My Bleep and Bell Clap Dance. Throughout everything there’s repeated evidence of an unearthly unity between the artists nodding at all great strains of electronic dance music with early-hours dancefloor delirium in mind but euphoria and lift-off achieved with subtlety, soul and innate musicality; all drenched in the essential what-are-they-on? factor.
