Delivering 70 minutes of slick power-metal with enviable ease and clarity, Power Quest tried their best to deliver their usual ton of riffs to a half-empty venue (two rows of fans and a bored pole-dancer). The quintet – featuring Mercury Rain bassist Jon Hoare – blasted through songs from their catalogue and the current Master Of Illusion with aplomb. The liquid leads and duelling harmonies that make Power Quest’s music so gripping were executed smoothly despite equipment problems, with the new material the highlight. A future alongside the power elite should await them if there’s any justice.
