Some evil suit with a spreadsheet has noticed that every Quo compilation hits a certain target and, by repackaging the same old hits, he can squeeze cash from the band’s loyal army. Of course, with so little effort and imagination put into this latest best of, it also all comes at a very low cost.
That’s the only possible explanation for a great British institution’s 40th anniversary being marked by this utterly pointless and insulting compilation. Let’s go through the list: The cod-psych? Check. The curtailed version of Caroline? Check. The Anniversary Waltz? Uh-huh. In The Army Now? No. What?! Only joking. The only positive is that you can avoid the spineless 2-CD version, and opt for the more exhaustive 76-track “EarBook” box set, or the 3-CD (with DVD) format, which includes bonus tracks and interviews.
After four decades it was time for something different. Such a pity.
