It’s a truism that blues rockers get better with age, and a packed crowd were given ample evidence of this, as Rodgers made his only UK appearance of the year. Preceding him, the Deborah Bonham Band delivered a rousing set, with standouts for the gutsy-voiced singer including Jack Past 8, Fly (from her next, 2013 album), and a swashbuckling Rock’N’Roll.

Deborah’s lock-tight band, with the consummate Peter Bullick on guitar, backed Rodgers in this charity gig for The Racehorse Sanctuary. And he didn’t disappoint. The expected crowd-pleasers, My Brother Jake, Fire And Water, Wishing Well and Riding On A Pony, were mixed in with newer songs like With Our Love, complete with sitar. Relaxed and jocular, Rodgers looked good and sounded better, inviting Bonham up for a touching duet, and rocking the encore with A Little Bit of Love, Can’t Get Enough and obligatory All Right Now.
