Orion The Hunter - Orion The Hunter

AOR supergroup’s patchy 1984 effort

When Tom Scholz put Boston on hold in the early 80s, guitarist Barry Goudreau joined forces with future Boston singer Fran Cosmo and one-time Heart drummer Mike De Rosier to form Orion The Hunter. With co-writes from Boston singer Brad Delp, there are certainly echoes of the mothership on the likes of the bookends All Those Years and the uptempo I Call It Love. The rich harmonies and burnished keys are, however, melded with Syndrums and a guitar sound closer to The Police on So You Ran, while Stand Up sounds like a period sci-fi B-movie theme. Fast Talk has a beefier edge while, for lovers of piano ballads in the Styx mould, there’s Joanne. Too Much In Love, however, has some horrible electro synths and drums, and you’ll need to be a real fan of 80s rock to get too excited.
