While Power Quest have yet to make the leap into the mainstream, they have celebrity backing, as evinced by Neverworld’s guests musos Rich West and Karl Groom (Threshold), Clive Nolan (Arena) and Sam Totman (Dragon Force). The Brit quintet’s 2004 set is expanded with a bonus DVD of video clips, though the album itself has a lot going for it. The opening nineminute title track lays out the template of Royal Hunt-esque uptempo fare, all melodic, layered keys, guitars and vocals, with hints of 80s Europe to add chart sensibility. Edge Of Time is one of the band’s AOR numbers, while When I’m Gone adds Beatley flute and keys before the hurtling Into The Light and others.
Wings Of Forever saw line-up changes but no change in musical direction. Keyboardist Steve Williams and co, with singer Alessio Caravello on top form, frame another 10 songs, among which highlights are the Stratovarius-like title track. Far Away has superb harmonies, Glory Tonight is a dual guitar anthem and Freedom Of Thought is akin to Iron Maiden at the gallop. Two distorted demos are a bonus, along with another DVD of clips.
