Principally known for his broad vocal range, Lenoir could hit surprisingly high registers – perfect for an upbeat musician whose blues embraced humour. Here, he fuses jazz, R&B and, at times, rock’n’roll on a record that’s more pop crossover than mannish boy lament. With unceasingly energetic guitar work framed by Willie Dixon’s thumping bass, standouts include the contentious (and previously withdrawn) Eisenhower Blues.
