Mighty Baby released their selftitled album in 1969, a recording far removed from their hardcore mod roots as The Action. Toting progressive and psychedelic licks along with a modified band lineup, Mighty Baby became a lost classic. With obvious West Coast vibes, a thread of beautiful harmony here, a Jerry Garcia-like guitar solo there, there is, however, an English derivation stamped onto the work. Whether it’s the sound of a single instrument or the structure of a song, there’s always an edge that says this album is homegrown. Tight, perfectly formed and, as an aside to the record label, very well mastered, fans of more mature psychedelic rock will approve of this one.
