Walking in to be greeted with sirens, searchlights and snippets of Churchill speeches, I thought I’d wandered into an Iron Maiden concert! But instead of running to the hills, fans were blasted with YMCA, driving the sell-out crowd into a frenzy from which my ears have yet to recover. McFly have maintained their hard-core following while gathering new fans, thanks to hits like All About You, I Wanna Hold You, Five Colours In Her Hair and Shine A Light, which loan themselves to a party atmosphere, while newer songs from their upcoming album, such as Do Whatcha, Red and Touch The Rain, showcased their darker, heavier side. In fact, there’s a rock band waiting to burst out from the pop facade, much like early Status Quo – a damn fine band that deliver quality entertainment.
