Thirteen years after Korn released their debut album and redefined heavy metal for a generation of sulky teenagers, they’re still claiming to be hungry to make the best records possible. They haven’t made a really memorable album for years, though, which means that the live arena has to be where they dominate, or they might as well retire. Hence this new live DVD.
The 2007 line-up have changed a lot. Singer Jonathan Davis is fatter and bassist Fieldy is thinner, for a start, but the departure of guitarist Brian ‘Head’ Welch after a Christian rebirth doesn’t seem to have affected them negatively (after all, who needs a bloke with a Biblical tattoo on his hand to remind him not to masturbate?). The slimmed-down band run through an obvious greatest hits set (Blind and Got The Life are the high points) at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom, all of which is highly predictable.
There’s a treat for long-time fans in a bonus documentary. This follows the band on a trip on a private jet from Stansted airport (oh, the glamour) to the US, taking a load of MTV-contest winning fans with them and knocking out a gig over the Atlantic. Essential if you’re a fan, not remotely so otherwise.
