Deep Purple - Live In London

Much bootlegged, and not one of Purple’s best shows, this set saw the Hughes/Coverdale-fronted line-up promoting Burn. Said album’s title track kicks off in fine fashion, with Glenn Hughes energetically whooping over Jon Lord’s flying keyboard lines and Ian Paice’s tub-bashing. Might Just Take Your Life has both vocalists giving it what-for, while Mistreated has more fine wailing from the bassist. However, he blots the copybook on Smoke On The Water, and Coverdale’s cords are thin by the closing 30 minutes of Space Truckin’. Ritchie Blackmore’s meandering on the 20-minute You Fool No One also holds up Paice’s drum spot, so it’s not exactly their finest moment. Still, an amusing and fiery addition to the official catalogue.
