Prins Thomas - Live At Robert Johnson Vol 2

Disco spectacular continues club’s birthday celebrations

Live At Robert Johnson
Vol 2

After taking the cosmic disco sound he helped forge earlier in the decade with Hans-Peter Lindstrom onto its next phase with the recent II album, Norwegian DJ-producer Prins Thomas now turns in one of the year’s best mix albums. This is the second volume in a four-part series to mark the 10th anniversary of Frankfurt’s wonderfully-named Robert Johnson club (the first featured France’s Chloe). Limited to 2,000, the CDs, mixed live at the club, can be collated in a lavish fold-out “art-book”.

Thomas’ selection straddles a diverse selection including the expected space disco delights by the likes of Bjørn Torske, Sebastian Tellier, Ricardo Villalobos, Low Motion Disco and sublimely-Moroderesque Cage & Aviary. There are also classics such as Martin Circus’ seminal Disco Circus and late 70s West London legends Steel An’ Skin’s Afro Punk Reggae.

There are many mindblowing delights here, including the 303-fest of Acid Test’s Test 1 and New York’s mighty Rub N Tug wreaking their usual havoc with Capracara. Ultimately, the 27 components are all immaculately woven into one huge, hallucinogenic mirrorball, whose beams point to further new galaxies for the most infinite and consistently-exciting musical strain percolating in dance music’s loins at the moment. It sounds like some club!
