Run-DMC - Live At Montreux 2001

The kings of Hollis, Queens in the fullest effect

When Run-DMC were stopped in their tracks the day Jam Master Jay was shot in New York, October 2002, anything bearing the logo of one of the great names in hip-hop took on a new historical significance. Live At Montreux 2001 is no exception. Released as both a DVD and CD, it documents the trio’s sole appearance at Montreux’s historic jazz festival, during what turned out to be their final European tour.

Re-energised in the wake of the international success of Justin Nevins’ remix of It’s Like That, and touring in support of their then current album Crown Royal, Run, DMC and Jam Master Jay have the crowd in the palm of their hand from the moment they walk on stage. From then on this powerhouse greatest hits extravaganza, including It’s Tricky, Rock Box, Sucker MCs, King Of Rock, Walk This Way, Peter Piper and more, incorporates all the iconic elements of the Run-DMC brand, from the hats and Adidas, Jay’s sledgehammer beats and the banter between Run and DMC. If you never experienced their indestructible live sound in person, this really is the next best thing.
