Leaf Hound took to the stage for the second of their 40th Anniversary shows. Having already performed Growers Of Mushroom at London’s Borderline, the band were in their element at this intimate venue in Twickenham. The re-constituted line-up has seen a renaissance in singer Peter French’s career, and his galvanising vocals were complemented by ‘Cool Hand’ Luke Rayner, on guitar, while Jimmy Rowland and Ed Pearson provided a dynamic rhythm section. A nostalgic, revitalised rendition of Growers was delivered in rocking style, gratifying highlights including Freelance Fiend, Stagnant Pool and Sad Road To The Sea, which was augmented by the dexterous fret-board interplay of Rayner and Pearson. Additional material from 2007’s acclaimed Unleashed included Too Many Rock’n’Roll Times and The Man With The Moon In Him. The current band possesses a chemistry and authenticity that’s enabled the enigma of their archetypal underground release to endure the test of time.
