Kris Kristofferson
Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow
28th March, 2007

View: front row, circle, dead centre

With only a guitar and harmonica for company, and clad head to toe in black, in tribute to his friend and mentor Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson radiates weathered gravitas. It takes a lot of presence and, not least of all, a songbook of infinite richness to really carry off a solo performance. Kristofferson has the guts, big heart, life story and, most importantly, an abundance of songs capable of lighting up the darkest of stages.

Interestingly, tonight’s show carries echoes of Vietnam-era KK, with the man himself repeatedly referencing the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Gulf War throughout what is a one-man tour de force. Third song in and a road-toughened Me & Bobby
