Right from the word Go, Moby has recognised the extra dimension and pushing power a good remix can give a tune. Despite managing to move very successfully from the NYC clubs into the million-selling mainstream, he’s never lost sight of the fact that it was the clubs which made him and the remixers that helped. It’s a logical and rewarding move to follow last November’s Go: The Very Best Of Moby with a compilation that looks back at some of the reupholstering he’s received over the years. Some have even been previously confined to promo-only status, making it especially handy for non- DJ collectors.
With CD and download version featuring different tracks, the collection is a mixture of old and new with Go remixes as recent as last year’s incisive Trentemoller and Vitalic versions, and Armand Van Helden’s recent glorious boost of the Deborah Harry-sung New York New York. Other highlights include a belting take on Porcelain by Miami’s Murk squad, Faithless’s Rollo and Sister Bliss rogering Honey and an unreleased remix of In My Heart by Manhattan Clique. And, of course, Moby tackled the James Bond theme in the mid- 90s. A worthy companion to the compilation, fittingly segued together like a DJ set.
