One of the great tenor sax players of all time, East Broadway Rundown is probably the highpoint of a series of superb albums that Rollins released during the late 60s and early 70s. His second album of 1966, right after another cracker, Alfie, it sees the saxman team up with Freddie Hubbard, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones. The four jazz heavyweights circle each other like matadors in a bullfight, creating tensions that, when they lock together, hit creative highs that are well worth the journey. A perfect example of each member of a quartet going off on their own thing and making it work for the group.
