A UK gig by Britain’s forgotten R&B ruffians is a rare and wonderful thing. Inhabiting a netherworld between 60s rock’n’roll and 70s pub-rock/punk, they make a noise and they look the part. Guitarist Don Craine wears his wonderfully daft deerstalker and Keith Grant looks – and sounds – like the bassist the Stones should’ve had. Lead guitarist Del Dwyer is Johnny Ramone’s mutant brother, while supersized long-hair drummer Al Brooks could be from Little Britain.

What’s deadly serious is their musical attack, originals from the band’s early 60s albums and gritty covers: the hit, Little Egypt, Rocks In My Bed, Bloodhound and Let It Rock, with Grant and Craine trading vocals. It’s loud and raw, how music in a sweaty club should be.
