Compiled from studio outtakes collected before the release of the band’s 1966 debut album, Black Monk Time, these demos include early versions of Monk Time, Love Came Tumbling Down, Boys Are Boys and Space Age. Monk archivists will be happy to find two tracks from the band’s earlier incarnation as The Torquays, which saw their first steps into the limelight while based in Germany, having just left the American army. Of course, they quickly made a pact with the devil in the mid-60s, shaved the tops of their heads, wore monk clothing and became raw, aggressive punk monsters from Lucifer’s own garage. An historical anomaly, the band has become far more popular now than they ever were during their heyday.
