Damage Control - Damage Control

Borderline five-star set from mixed rock supergroup

Damage Control

When you put together UFO’s Pete Way, The Quireboys’ Spike, Chris Slade, formerly of AC/DC and ex-Asia man Robin George, you’d expect them to come up with something half-decent. In fact, the dozen songs here are a corking collection of hard rockers, mixing elements of UFO’s rhythm-andguitar sound, with Spike’s patented wailing. Granted, on occasion he sounds like Bonnie Tyler’s little brother (the sweet Redundant and belting Alice), but George’s guitar and some sweet harmonies on the likes of the rumbling Savage Songs and catchy Raw shape things nicely. He also loans some deft Spanish guitar to the breathy Selfish, the title track is a swaggering effort akin to the brothers Young, and Seven Golden Daffodils struts like Alannah Myles before the closing harmonica-laced Southern fuzz of Bitching Blues. Class.
