Brilliant rare soul and funk from the mighty King stable

Crash Of Thunder

This great collection stands as testament to both the scope of the King group’s R&B output and the knowledge of compiler, NYbased soul DJ Mr Fine Wine, and proves it’s still possible to release a set of 20 superb dancefloor sides not compiled before, and also, unpredictably, have noJames Brown productions or Northern soul treasures on it.

Though this field of the indie giant’s catalogue is huge, it’s well known and heavily examined. Yet there are barely known killer cuts here (such as Robert Moore on the DeLuxe imprint). Remarkably, just one promo 45 copy of The Swinging Seven’s raw funk beast Football is believed to exist. We suspect Mr Fine Wine could name his price on that one. More amazing still (and how often do you hear this?) shortly after sending the archives a rather hopeful wishlist of obscurities for the project, a fully mastered CD arrived back from the King vaults, all titles present and correct. Stupendous and essential. Vinyl-hounds take note, a 10×7” box set is also out now.
