What a difference a smoking ban makes! I could actually see the stage and the fans of all ages, who’d turned out on a drizzly night for two 40-minute sets. Using an amp his “mate made for him”, Aynsley played a selection of new material from Upside Down – In The Morning, Disorderly Me and Beautiful (Keiana’s Song) – as well as old favourites like Mississippi Lawnmower Blues. Borrowed work included an emotive version of Sheryl Crow’s Strong Enough, Van Morrison’s Moondance and a suave Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone. Other memorable numbers included The Mad Man Blues, Aeroplane Blues and Crossroads Blues. Effortlessly switching between guitars, styles and rhythms, the plaudits heaped on Lister are deserved. An encore of Hendrix’s Little Wing rounded the evening off perfectly.
