Foreigner - Alive And Rockin’

AOR giants offer live best of in Germany, 2011

In the years since Kelly Hansen took over lead vocals, stalwart Foreigner fans have come to embrace his take on the band’s AOR classics as originally rendered by Lou Gramm. While there’s the occasional sharp edge (Juke Box Hero), he’s rightly won the masses over. With founder Mick Jones providing sterling guitar work and the occasional keyboard/vocal contribution (see Starrider), and Jason Bonham powering the whole, there’s more than enough for fans in this 11-song set.

Whether anyone needs another live collection is a moot point, but as an entrée to their oeuvre, this ticks the boxes, including Double Vision, with its Deep Purple-esque keys, the thumping Head Games (all muscular percussion and jabbing guitar), and the strident Cold As Ice. Dirty White Boy is a little pale compared to the original, but Feels Like The First Time is apt, and the robust Urgent, pumping Hot Blooded and a nod to Zeppelin keep the pedal floored.
