Though, unsurprisingly, not as authoritative or detailed as the official AC/DC: Maximum Rock’n’Roll, this massive tome serves as a more than decent biography. It also boasts hundreds of photographs, informed essays on each of the band’s studio albums, details of their equipment… the list goes on.
The story of the band’s Scottish/Australian origins, their success down under when they were taken under the wing of ex-Easybeats Vanda & Young (Angus and Malcolm’s older brother George), their subsequent rise to fame and the death of original singer Bon Scott are familiar, but always compelling. The even greater success enjoyed with ex-Geordie vocalist Brian Johnson and their status as icons in the world of hard rock also provide good reading – but it’s the pictures that really tell the story here. The addition of quotes from fellow rock stars, including a perceptive afterword by Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott, make this an ideal purchase for any AC/DC fan.
