WHERE WERE YOU WHEN THE SPECTOR LP WAS RELEASED?
Congratulations to Terry Staunton on the wonderful article and interview with Darlene Love (RC357). To my mind Darlene had, and still has, possibly the best female voice on the planet. But I spotted a small error in the first paragraph – Phil Spector’s Christmas Album was recorded at Gold Star during the sweltering summer of 1963 (not 1964, as printed in the article) and was released in the US on the eve of the assassination of John F. Kennedy (22 November 1963). The album didn’t sell at the time because of this as most US citizens were stunned at what had happened and any celebration of Christmas was on nobody’s agenda.
