UK NIRVANA , US MEMORIES

Re Nirvana (RC 366): It seems as if it were just yesterday when Muff Winwood sent me a mono pink label Simon Simopath Island UK LP. I was an FM radio dj in Pennsylvania and the music fitted snugly next to the likes of Procol Harum and King Crimson on my show. I aired all their Island singles heavily. The Bell label issued them Stateside to very sparse radio play.

I represented the Vertigo UK label in the USA and when Patrick Campbell-Lyons took over the running of the publishing arm for the UK, and he sent me the Vertigo Heads Together publishing sampler along with a dozen copies of Local Anathesthic and later on Songs Of Love and Praise to license to interested third party labels Stateside. Sadly not one bit.

One of Nirvana UK’s top USA rarities is the 7” radio spot EP for the soft porno flick The Touchables (it features music from All Of Us). Mint copies are valued at $75. It would be lovely to see a complete Nirvana/Campbell-Lyons discography as countless 45s were produced/issued under pseudonyms like ‘Erehwon’ (‘nowhere’ backwards) for Harvest UK. Pat, thanks for the great melodies and memories!
