SWEET CHARITY (2)
I am a volunteer and record collector, pricing up vinyl in three local charity shops. We find that dealers come in trying to pick items up for next to nothing so they can be sold at a huge profit. I am not a professional valuer but try and price things more for the true collector bearing in mind that should they fall on hard times they can at least recover the original cost. We find that the records that struggle are the 50p and £1 ones which eventually end up being disposed of. All the others sell very well and we make a lot of money so the prices must be right. The only people that complain are those who are trying to make a profit. The days of getting a Beatles album for £1 in my shops have gone and I make no apology for it. I do agree that Oxfam prices are ridiculous (£4 for a Leo Sayer album?). I know everyone is looking for a bargain but this money is going to charity which I am sure we all hope by the grace of God we will never need. If you want bargains go to car boot /jumble sales, seller beware!
