SEATRAIN AGAIN!
Re: last month’s letters about Seatrain - I was a fan of the group during the early 70s and own four albums. (Seatrain 1969, Seatrain 1971, Marblehead Messenger 1971, Watch 1973) The 1971 albums were released on Capitol and were produced by George Martin. The lyrics, music and production on the 1971 Seatrain album are outstanding and I believe that the album has stood up well. I can remember one of the group stating that there were some excellent stories in the Bible and they had used the material in Song Of Job, one of the best on the album.
I am sure that the group played a few gigs in the UK: I seem to recall them supporting Traffic in Liverpool. I am surprised at Mike Hurst stating that ‘no one over here ever heard of the Seatrain album’: RC readers are very knowledgeable and often know more that the so-called experts! It would also be nice to have an in depth article on Jess Roden (ex-Alan Bown, ex-Bronco and has solo work).
